Tips for Diabetes Management

Woman medical professional with man

At AdvantageCare Physicians (ACPNY), we understand that managing your diabetes isn’t always easy. That’s why we’re sharing these healthy habits that you can make part of your daily routine.

Healthy Eating: It’s important to maintain healthy eating habits to keep your diabetes under control. We recommend basing your meals around lean proteins (chicken and fish) and non-starch vegetables (carrots, broccoli, spinach). You should also reduce the portion size of any carbohydrates (pasta, bread, potatoes) to avoid raising your blood sugar levels too high.

Exercise: Find ways of exercising that you enjoy! It could be anything from going for a walk in the park, riding your bike around the neighborhood, or doing yoga. Remember that exercise doesn’t have to be a chore—it can be a fun, relaxing part of your day.

Avoid Smoking and Limit Alcohol Consumption: Smoking and alcohol consumption can make your diabetes symptoms worse, so it’s important that you do everything you can to avoid these unhealthy habits.

Talk to a Provider: Our team of Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialists will help you create a customized lifestyle plan to achieve better blood glucose control and manage diabetes-related complications.
