At AdvantageCare Physicians, our goal is to pair you with a Primary Care Provider (PCP) who is a good match for your specific care needs. Sometimes, that PCP might be a Nurse Practitioner (NP). Although you may have traditionally thought that only doctors – or MDs – could be PCPs, advances in training and licensure now mean NPs are qualified to deliver focused, coordinated care and ongoing management of your overall health.

NPs are fully trained and licensed to manage their own set of patients and can provide many of the same types of care as physicians, such as:

  • Diagnosing, treating, and managing chronic illnesses
  • Prescribing medications
  • Ordering and interpreting the results of lab or radiology tests and screening
  • Providing preventive health services, including health education and counseling

By choosing an NP as your PCP, you may have access to more available appointment times or even a wider variety of providers, such as one who shares your cultural background or speaks your native language. And because your NP PCP will work in supervisory partnership with a doctor, you can always be confident that you’re receiving top-quality care.

When a visit with your PCP isn’t required, you could see a Physician Assistant (PA) instead, another type of Advance Practice Clinician also fully qualified to see patients for specific types of care. AdvantageCare Physicians always aims to give patients convenient access to appropriate care with a provider who delivers it according to the most current medical standards.

At ACPNY, we care for the whole you. That means understanding the physical, mental, and lifestyle factors that impact your overall health, and delivering care in an environment that results in a positive patient experience. If you’re interested in knowing more about the NPs at your closest ACPNY office, and perhaps even choosing one as your PCP, call 646-680-4227.

In observance of Christmas and New Year’s, ACPNY offices will be operating on a holiday schedule. For your convenience, select offices will remain open. Learn more.
