Dermatology is a branch of medicine dedicated to conditions of the skin, nails, and hair. Dermatologists can identify and treat conditions ranging from cosmetic to life-threatening, including:
- Acne
- Dermatitis and eczema
- Skin cancer
- Rosacea
Patients should consider seeing a dermatologist if they have a family history of skin cancer, or notice a mole change size, shape, or color as this may indicate cancer. Dermatologists can also treat acne or rashes that won’t go away with over-the-counter treatments. They also teach patients preventive measures to improve their skin care habits. If necessary, dermatologists can perform a wide variety of procedures, including:
- Biopsies
- Cryotherapy
- Lesion removal
- Mohs surgery
- Skin grafts
