Cardiology

Cardiologist and patient

Cardiology is a field of medicine devoted to the heart and blood vessels. Cardiologists work with patients to improve overall heart health and reduce their risk of problems such as heart attacks, heart failure, and abnormal heart rhythms. While seeing a cardiologist is an important part of heart health, remember that in case of emergency, you should call 911 or go to an emergency room.

At AdvantageCare Physicians (ACPNY), our cardiologists treat a variety of heart-related conditions, including:

  • Arrhythmia (problem with the rate or rhythm of your heartbeat)
  • Cardiomyopathy (disease that makes it harder for your heart to pump blood to the rest of your body)
  • Congestive heart failure (fluid build-up around the heart that causes it to pump inefficiently)
  • Coronary artery disease (clogging of the arteries)
  • Heart disease
  • High cholesterol
  • Hypertension (high blood pressure)
  • Pulmonary hypertension (high blood pressure in the arteries to your lungs)
  • Valvular disease (damage in one of the four heart valves)

Your PCP may recommend seeing a cardiologist if you have signs of high blood pressure or cholesterol, diabetes, a family history of heart disease, or if you smoke. Our cardiologists use an assortment of tests to evaluate patients, including:

  • Echocardiogram (ultrasound picture of your heart and valves)
  • Stress test
  • Nuclear stress test
  • Holter and cardiac telemetry (monitors to track the rate or rhythm of your heart)
