Nutrition Counseling and Diabetes Care

Endocrinology and nutrition go hand-in-hand, particularly when it comes to diabetes care. At AdvantageCare Physicians (ACPNY), you’ll have access to a Care Team that includes a Primary Care Provider (PCP), as well as endocrinologists, who will work together to meet your needs.

Diabetes is the most common endocrine system disorder and occurs when blood sugar levels are consistently above normal. At ACPNY, our endocrinologists can create a tailored treatment plan that combines dietary and medication therapies to help you control your blood glucose levels. Our endocrinologists may refer you to a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN), who will help you develop a dietary plan to manage your diabetes. Our RDNs will specifically tailor this plan to meet your individual needs by looking at your:

  • Past medical history
  • Food preferences and dietary habits
  • Allergies and intolerances
  • Budget limitations
  • Cultural preferences
  • Sleep habits
  • Stress levels
  • Weight history

Additionally, our Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialists (CDCESs) can help you manage your condition by providing guidance on topics like:

  • When and how to take your medications
  • How food, stress, and other lifestyle factors can impact your blood sugar levels
  • Using a blood glucose meter, continuous blood glucose monitor, and insulin pen or pump

Nutrition is a crucial aspect of managing your diabetes, so if you’re interested in learning more, check out our nutrition page. Maintaining a balanced diet that works for you is critical to living a happy, healthy life. To find out how we can help, make an appointment today.
